Christopher Reynolds, M.Ed., Berea High School, Ashland University, Angel House Center for Art and Creative Life Change There is a transformative renewal of our region that has been going on the past few years.  It is rising up from the grassroots level, is visionary, inspiring and has been changing persons one at a time. It takes the form of small centers that focus on creativity, spirituality and healing. They go by names like, Angel House, Inner Harmony, Creative Healing Center, Wellness Evolution, Insight, Spiritual Quest Foundation, Circle of Light Integrative Healing and Sacred Arts Center, and so on.  At the heart of each of the centers are persons who experienced ‘Callings’ with the capital “C” to bring healing to where they live.  If you listen to the stories of the Callings, in every case, they are spiritual experiences in the classic sense, including the presence of spiritual beings, divine guidance, healing and empowerment. These centers have all taken root with little money and lots of faith. The identifying pattern of this wave of renewal is that it is holistic, meaning whole in the deepest sense: physical, psychological, spiritual, ecological and cosmological.    The identifying mark in the general population for those who are also living this pattern of renewal is that of the “orphan.”  By orphan, I certainly mean literally, but also metaphorically. They are the persons deemed “not good enough to keep”, the “sick” ones degraded, ignored, out of place, seemingly born at the wrong time.  In the old initiation stories, which are stories about how individuals transform their cultures, the heroes are all of this kind, a raggedy boy, a lost girl, a step-child, son or daughter of a widow.    In our time, the general pattern is that the world, as perceived by the orphan, is much more expansive, meaningful, loving and merged with spiritual realities than the “real” world as delineated by the current family, educational, religious, political, scientific and technological systems.  The resultant isolation and suffering brings the orphans to a crisis point that many do not survive. The individuals who do manage to find the healing information for their lives, usually through a form of death and rebirth experience, are now gathering in greater numbers at our local creativity and healing centers.   The renewal our region is seeking has already been quietly underway for some years now. This essay is a Calling in itself to those who would be leaders to invite those centers and individuals who have been living in this renewed, holistic manner into public awareness. There is an astounding amount of wisdom for our times waiting to be welcomed home and permitted to share what Joseph Campbell in the Hero of a Thousand Faces called, “The Boon”, with the culture at large.  Time, money, effort, generosity invested in the wave of renewal I described opens a better way forward for the future generations.   F. The restoration of our region is occurring in our various healing and spirituality centers. The land within the persons and the land that is the Earth are not separate from each other. Christopher Reynolds & Michael Olin Hitt   To the former constellation of Cygnus, add the black hole, Cygnus X-1, which is to be found near the star, Eta Cygni. Add also the North American Nebula, NGC 7000 and the Pelican Nebula, IC5070. The Northern Cross becomes a tree rooted in the river of the Milky Way when it is expanded into an ur-constellation. My message to those following the Ancient Ways is that a new Tree is flowering in the West. The Center of the people is alive, life-preserving and life-giving.  What is past can be released. We can be released form the past when we are ready.   Let the hoops, the circles of cultures be linked in Wisdom. The Awareness I describe is spiral, evolutionary, in the sense that it is both historic and archetypal. There are many wandering teachers now. They describe the magnified matter within that is also the Spirit Beyond, as an 8th chakra located above our heads, as the Great Story, as the Great Work, as the place where reincarnation and biology intersect, as radical aliveness, as dreamers awakening in a dream, within a conversation, within a Creation that was already going on while they were asleep. The spiral of Convergence of Deep Time and Deep Consciousness now occurs in dreams and in spiritual experiences. The Tree of Life means incarnation after incarnation, not as punishments, but as opportunities, even Delight in playing a part in a Great Becoming. The Holy says:   “Fo ur seasons, four realities, four stages of the Journey, and yet, there are cyclesand cycles and cycles of four reflecting the Ultimate Four. The soul is a tree and the individual is a ring in the tree. Knowing the Four, knowing the Cycle, feeding the Longevity, which is greater than the ring, it is once again, the Expansion. Foliage comes forth and the rings of fruitfulness come forth. Then, there are times of dry Seasons. This is not a dry Season, not for you. It is not a dry Season. Many rings are you, many Seasons. You shall not be Cut and Counted just yet. You shall not be Trimmed just yet. The Paring shall come. You shall know the Time of Paring. May you never know the Time of Cutting. I thing you shall never know that Time. Such is a reckoning. It is a recycling of the wayward and the dead, the cut-off.   But nothing is wasted to the Spirit of the Center. To the Center all is brought, all is revealed, all is renewed. The dead logs come to the Center and those who die are not always dead. Do you know of what I speak? Those how die and are not dead are not brought to the Center. They are Called to the Center. There is a difference. The Journey is continued based on the Call and Response.”   May this Heavenly Tree be reflected in civil relations where all children can find shelter and play. Let them be safe to develop under the loving care of elders. May those elders know their own life’s Purposes. May their presence bring Delight to the life’s Purposes of the children. May this Heavenly Tree be reflected in communal caring that honors the cycles of life. May births, deaths, re-births, Creation be celebrated, honored, Magnified.
