Linking Storyteling to Urban Renewal

Created 5/14/09 by I-Open Team

From Chris Reynolds, guest for the June 4 Midtown Brews conversation...

In a video clip with Frank Mills about the loss of story in our region, I said that the emptied church could be understood in the sense that the sacred stories are now occurring in other places, at the edges and in the spaces left empty by the declining culture. I said that this is a call to go hunting for the sacred stories, to 'stretch the walls' of what places we consider holy.

On June 4th, I'm going to be speaking about what sacred stories we have now. I'm inviting you to write a brief paragraph that tells the story of who you are and how you came to follow your calling.

You can add your story to 'Comment' below.

Born in Munich, Germany, in 1947.

The child of holocaust survivors.

I started searching for the truths about my world, my parents and who I am.

Unraveled the secrets and beliefs that I bought into to survive.

Places that felt familiar are now gone.

Off campus housing at Kent State is as 4 lane highway.

Where am I?

The duplex on Thornhill in Cleveland stands alone.

Dieter and Giesele Schubach no longer can see the apartment building next to that duplex. It is gone.

What else is gone?
