Art and energy go hand in hand

Windside technology enables installation even in the midst of a densely built urban area, for instance in parks, at roadside rest points or combined with buildings.

One of the Windside turbine applications is wind art work, which produces electricity for its own lightning system. In this joint creation of an artist and engineers, profit and beauty have been combined.

An example of this kind of application is Ms Tarja Ervasti’s recent  environmental art work Tuulen kuvia (Wind Images) at Arabianranta, in Helsinki, Finland. The work was implemented by Oy Windside Production Ltd, Laatuvalo Oy and Obelux Oy.

The beautiful design and gradually changing colours create an art work, which is in constant interaction with the environment. There are various colour patterns for different weather conditions both in summer and winter.

The work consists of spiral light patterns based on LED emitters on brick façade and Winside’s wind turbine on the roof. In addition, the work has a weather station that controls the system according to wind and temperature.

Artist Ervasti has created lighting art works and designed lighting for theatre, dance and opera for more than twenty years. Besides Finland she has worked e.g. in Sweden, Denmark and the USA. In addition to her artistic work, Ms Ervasti has taught lighting expression at the Theatre Academy, the University of Art and Design Helsinki and the Academy of Fine Arts in Finland, and at Det Kongelige Teaterhogskole in Denmark.
